If you would be so kind to take a look to the right side of your screen, you will see there is a Poll up.
I need your help. One of the plans I have for Dream Palace is to have a number of Genre Books written that would cover the conventions and histories of popular Movie Genres. They would be mostly history and discussion, but they would also have helpful tweaks to the base Dream Palace rules to help simulate the feel of these movies.
What I would like to know is what genre should the first book be? You'll need to register with the site in order to vote, but this is your chance to influence a game company to go in the direction you want it to!

I'm a bit late with this, but I promised to keep everyone in the loop.
Ralph Mazza should be at Dreamation now with the Demo version of Dream Palace that I whipped together for him. With any luck, he didn't leave it at home.
The last playtest went well. We decided to start fresh with a new Movie instead of continuing "The Dog from Hell" or "Another Brick in the Wall." The former was a Romantic Comedy involving an Uptight New York Lawyer and a Free-Spirited Dog Walker. The latter was a testosterone-soaked Action Blockbuster set during the Cold War.
“Another Brick in the Wall” Was the first playtest we had where we introduced the Played By concept into the game. Played By doesn't affect game play directly, but it does add a fun element where you can cast any actor or actress into a role. In this Movie, we cast Will Smith as the Young Spy and Bruce Willis as the Experienced Spy. Arnold Schwarzenegger played the Sadistic Head of the Secret Police and Nick Nolte was Arnold's partner in crime as the Turncoat Spy. Woody Allen played the Defector
Woody Allen died at the beginning of the Movie. Poor Woody.
Imagining a known actor in a part helped considerably with the visualizing the story and upped the fun factor as we went into many bad impressions of the actors.

Great News!
Dream Palace is swiftly reaching Alpha status, where I will be able to release it under controlled conditions for playtesting. Ralph Mazza of Ramshead Publishing has told me that if it shows itself to be in playable condition for the next playtest session, that he will be demonstrating it at Dreamation 2009, which is coming up on February 19th.
I cant' promise this is going to happen, but it has a very good chance. I'll keep you in the loop with another report after Dream Palace's upcoming playtest session. Wish us all broken legs, because those going to Dreamation have a very good chance being the first ones outside my GoPlay group to experience the "rough cut" of Dream Palace!

Hiya Folks!
One of the reason I've been so quiet lately is that I have been busily hanging curtains on the site and making that animation on the front page of the site. In honor of Dream Palace, I have redone the site in the vision of a movie theatre! I hope it meets with your approval.
You will be seeing more movie-related information at heraldicgame.com. For example, I plan on hunting down as many of the clasic movie theatres that I can and getting photos of them in the media album. The first one I have managed to get is the Egyptian Theatre in DeKalb IL. Unfortunately, I arrived there a week before Halloween and they had draped something that looks like burlap on the outside of the building to make it look more Halloween-y. I'm going to contact the owners and see about getting shots of the inside as well.
Two more targets for my camera would be the Apollo Theatre here in Peoria , and the Avon Theatre in Decatur.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Monster Movies! Two great tastes that go great together!
Movie Fun Fact
Originally, clips of the movies mentioned in the song "Science Fiction/Double Feature" were supposed to play during the opening credits. However, acquiring the rights to the clips proved to be too expensive. This led to the iconic lips singing the song instead. Lips work cheap.
